Sardinia: superyachts and gigayachts are arriving – a snapshot of luxury worth 2.5 billion

Superyachts and gigayachts have arrived in Sardinia. More specifically, in the north-east: from Santa Teresa di Gallura to San Teodoro, via the La Maddalena archipelago, the Costa Smeralda, Arzachena and Olbia. These ultra-luxury vessels were quick to arrive in these areas. Among them are four of the largest and most valuable superyachts in the world.

This picture was painted by the analysis of visitor numbers carried out by the Cipnes UniOlbia Research Centre, which then cross-referenced the vessel data with that from Superyachtfun to identify the owners. The list of superyachts includes, for example, Al Said, “155 metres long, built by the German shipyard Lürssen, with an estimated value of around 600 million dollars. Previously attributed to the royal family of Oman and now to that of Qatar”.

Then there is A+: formerly known as Topaz, it is 147 metres long, was built by Lürssen and has an estimated value of around 450 million dollars. “It is attributed to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the royal family of Abu Dhabi – as the Research Centre points out – with an estimated fortune of around 38 billion dollars, and chairman of Manchester City.”

Not only that, but the Yas, which is 141 metres long, is also present: it was built by the Dutch shipyard Koninklijke Schelde and has an estimated value of around 180 million dollars. It is said to belong to Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the royal family of Abu Dhabi. Then there is the Kismet, 122 metres long, ‘which was built by Lürssen and has an estimated value of around 360 million dollars’. It belongs to the American entrepreneur Shahid Khan.

“Overall,” the Cipnes Research Centre points out, “the 21 yachts identified through the database have an estimated value of around 2.55 billion dollars; an average length of around 78 metres; and owners whose combined estimated wealth exceeds 416 billion dollars.”
