AI: The US and China are to open a direct line of communication to manage ‘incidents’
The two countries have decided to establish a dialogue on super-intelligence to exchange views on the risks and benefits, and have agreed to set up a ‘bilateral communication channel’ dedicated to incidents
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The United States and China have announced the opening of a direct channel of communication to manage any incidents relating to artificial intelligence. The announcement came at the end of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington. Trump and Xi confirmed their intention to meet twice more this year (bringing the total to four meetings in 2026) at international summits scheduled to take place in China and the United States. The next meeting is scheduled for November.
AI was one of the key topics discussed at the summit, and the two countries – according to a statement released by the White House – have therefore decided to establish a “US-China Dialogue on Superintelligence to exchange views on the risks and benefits”, agreeing to set up a “bilateral communication channel” dedicated to incidents.
