Merz: The United States has approved the sale of Tomahawk missiles to Germany
German Chancellor Merz has confirmed the agreement with Washington on the deployment of Tomahawk missiles in Germany, highlighting Berlin’s active role in European security and NATO cohesion
The United States has approved the sale of Tomahawk missiles to Germany. This was stated by the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, who, speaking in the Bundestag, referred to an “agreement” with the Americans.
“Tomahawk missiles may be stationed in Germany,” he added. “This will allow us to plug a significant gap in our defences,” said Merz.
Merz: ‘Ankara summit exceeded expectations’
The outcome of the NATO summit in Ankara “has exceeded all my expectations. NATO is united, strong and confident. And we can finally see that the European members, together with Canada, have recognised the need to do much more for their own defence.”
The German Chancellor made this statement during her address to the Bundestag. “Germany has taken on an important role here, in close coordination with our neighbours in Europe. We will reach the 5 per cent target well ahead of schedule,’ Merz added, emphasising that ‘NATO is and remains a transatlantic alliance, but we Europeans are strong too, and we have realised that we cannot simply delegate our security to others. We ourselves are responsible for our own security.’
