The USA has imposed new sanctions against Iran, two days after US President Donald Trump announced for Saturday in Oman scheduled direct talks with Tehran on its nuclear programme while Iran clarified that these were indirect talks.
The US Treasury Department said it had imposed sanctions on five Iran-based entities and one Iran-based person for their support of Iran's nuclear programme.
Israel punishes former 'rebel' reservists
The commander of the Israeli Air Force, Major General Tomer Bar, has decided, with the support of the Chief of Staff, Major General Eyal Zamir, that the active reservists who signed the letter calling for priority to the return of the hostages still in Gaza over the continuation of the fight against Hamas "will not be allowed to continue serving in the IDF". There were about a thousand signatories.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz harshly criticised the letter: 'I firmly reject,' Katz said, 'the letter from the air force reservists and the attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the just war that the IDF is waging in Gaza for the return of the hostages and the defeat of the murderous terrorist organisation Hamas.
Alert on Hezbollah
Hezbollah is attempting to rebuild a weapons production site on the southern outskirts of Beirut, Lebanon's capital, and to conceal its activities from the US-led body monitoring the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.
