The White House launches ‘Trump TV’ to celebrate the administration’s achievements
A 24/7 video channel launched by the White House to disseminate Trump’s messages, in response to tensions with the mainstream media, which have been excluded from presidential events
It’s called ‘Trump TV: The Essentials Station’. It’s being launched by the White House: it will be a 24-hour video channel. “Welcome – this is the message with which Kaelan Dorr, Deputy Assistant to the US President, introduces TrumpTV in a post on X – In some cases, the press has reported inaccurately on, or failed to report at all, the Administration’s numerous record-breaking achievements for the benefit of all Americans”.
24-hour broadcasts
Trump TV, explains Dorr, “is a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week live stream of the administration’s greatest achievements, unfiltered. All available on the White House YouTube channel and the official app. Enjoy the show.” The first video streamed was an old speech by the tycoon, delivered at Mount Rushmore on 3 July this year.
CNN, MSNBC and Politico face legal action
Trump TV was launched at 7.00 pm on Monday, US time. This is the latest move, following the standoff triggered by the ban on access to the White House imposed on CNN, MSNBC and Politico. The media organisations announced an immediate legal challenge against the revocation of their accreditation and, a few hours later, the pool of television broadcasters responsible for covering the administration’s events announced that it would suspend coverage of presidential events rather than replace CNN for the scheduled broadcasts. Normally, as ‘Newsweek’ points out, for example, the pool rotates coverage between ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC, with footage distributed to other news organisations.
The reviews
The launch of Trump TV was announced this evening in the US. Criticism was quick to follow from those who describe the service as a state-run or state-controlled media outlet, similar to the tightly controlled systems in China and Russia. “Trump is literally preparing to launch a state-run media outlet called Trump TV. Didn’t another dictator have a state-run media outlet, or did I just imagine that?”, commented Breck Worsham, a well-known right-wing social media personality and former Trump supporter, on X. Philip Lewis, deputy editor of HuffPost, spoke instead of a propaganda network, as reported by Newsweek: “In the context of Trump’s ban on three news organisations,” Lewis pointed out, “the White House is now promoting its own state propaganda network: ‘Trump TV’”.
