Fiera Milano will manage the services for the design, operational management and decommissioning of the temporary infrastructures that will be hosted at the Rho exhibition centre during the 2026 Winter Olympics, specifically, the speed skating and ice hockey competitions.

In fact, the trade fair company was awarded the contract called by the Milan Cortina 2026 Foundation for these services. The activities, says a note issued by the company, include numerous temporary infrastructural works aimed at guaranteeing the functionality of the spaces intended for sports competitions, namely Halls 13 and 15, which will host speed skating competitions, and Halls 22 and 24, which will instead host ice hockey tournaments.

The works under the agreement

.

The main works envisaged by the agreement concern modular and scenotechnical set-ups, i.e. the installation of internal and external structures dedicated to the functional configuration of the competition areas; grandstands and support structures for the public; prefabricated modules and operating cabins to house changing rooms, staff areas, technical rooms and temporary operating rooms at the service of the competitions tensile structures and roofs to protect and cover access, logistical support, hospitality and media areas; fencing and security barriers; temporary plant systems, such as water and fire-fighting systems, mobile kitchens, cabling and technical infrastructure; technical equipment and operating machinery.

The value of the order

.

The total value of the contract is approximately EUR 30.7 million. Fiera Milano and Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 have signed a binding Interim Agreement, aimed at regulating the first executive phase of the activities, while the final contract is currently being defined. However, at the moment it is difficult to know the impact of this agreement on the accounts of the company, which therefore reserves the right to calculate and communicate the new targets as soon as possible.

Work: timing and added value

.

The work will begin in the first ten days of July, to be completed in November, so as to allow the so-called 'event-tests' necessary to test the tracks, spaces and infrastructures, explains the managing director of Fiera Milano, Francesco Conci. Who emphasises the importance of this agreement: "We are strengthening our collaboration with the Milan-Cortina Foundation, which will see us host a number of competitions in our pavilions, now becoming suppliers of strategic services that are fundamental for the success of the events. This is a confirmation of our ability to provide quality services, which is now recognised by major stakeholders'. In addition, Fiera Milano has secured complete control of the management of the spaces and therefore of the construction times and the added value of the interventions, which will also have a positive impact for the post-Olympics period, improving the performance of the pavilions involved, which can therefore also be used in the future for activities other than the traditional trade fair".
