Tractors, agricultural machinery sales rebound after three negative years (+13.7%)

The fall in the registration of agricultural machinery in Italy is halted. Driven by public incentives and campaigns to bring machines up to safety standards, new tractors registered last year totalled 17,573, up 13.7%, thus putting an end to a three-year 'red' in sales. A three-year period that had also represented a sort of reflux after the real boom recorded in 2021 post-pandemic when registrations reached an almost unreachable 24 thousand units.

The figures, elaborated on data released by the Ministry of Transport, were released by FederUnacoma, the association of manufacturing companies that associates about 2,000 companies in Italy with about 130,000 employees and a turnover of more than 14 billion (about half of which is generated abroad).

"The analysis of sales during 2025," they explain at FederUnacoma, "shows a progressive improvement: in the first half of the year, in fact, the trend was still negative compared to the previous year, while in the second half - and especially in the last quarter - the sector recorded a strong recovery to close in the black.

The driver of sales is always linked to tractors, but even the smaller categories, albeit anchored to much lower unit volumes, showed very positive signs. "Load platform tractors," explain the manufacturers' association, "closed the year with a growth of 45.7% against 771 registered units. The result was also positive for telehandlers, which closed the year with an 18.2% increase of 1,216 units, while the market for trailers grew at a more moderate rate, with 7,812 units, an increase of just over 4%. The only category that maintains a negative index is that of combine harvesters, which after the sharp declines recorded in the spring and summer managed to contain the loss in the final months of the year, closing with a 12% decrease referring to 234 registered units".

However, important support has come from government incentives, such as the Innovation Fund entrusted to Ismea, the Bando Isi Inail for machinery with high safety standards, the tax credit for 4.0 and the incentives for 5.0, as well as the Psr, the rural development plans co-financed by the European Union and the Regions, which represent a multi-year tool and therefore a constant reference in the process of innovation of agricultural enterprises".
