Grassroots unions: rail strike from 3:00 am on Thursday 11th to 2:00 am on Friday
The decision was taken following talks with the government at the MIT
In the end, there is likely to be disruption for those travelling by train on Thursday 11 June. This is the outcome of the negotiations between the government and the trade unions. The latter have opted for two different courses of action. On the one hand, the confederation trade unions who, at the end of the meeting at the MIT (attended by Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Trasporti, Orsa Trasporti and Fast), decided to suspend the 8-hour rail strike on 11 June, linked to the tendering process for Intercity services.
On the other hand, the grassroots unions confirmed in the late afternoon that the rail strike would go ahead from 3:00 am on Thursday 11th to 2:00 am on Friday 12th. Railway workers employed by companies affiliated with Cub Trasporti and SGB will therefore strike from 3:00 am on Thursday 11 June until 2:00 am on Friday 12 June, ‘in support of the platform for a national collective agreement that adequately protects the rights, safety, health and wages of all railway workers’. The strike has been called by the unions against the “black hole” of tenders and the “unbundling of the railways, and against the company/signatory system that is destroying Mercitalia”, the two unions state.
The protest comes after the national trade union confederations called off the 8-hour rail strike scheduled for 11 June, which was linked to the tendering process for Intercity services.
