Drugs, Trump administration considers new tariffs of 100 per cent
In the crosshairs of the White House are Big Pharma, which has not fulfilled its commitment to build a new plant in the US
The Trump administration could impose new tariffs of 100 per cent on certain drugs. This is reported by the Financial Times, which cites sources familiar with the matter, according to which the new tariffs would be applied to companies that have not entered into agreements with the White House.
According to the British newspaper, the decision to impose new tariffs would be accompanied by a request to pharmaceutical companies to increase production in the United States. The Financial Times recalls that last autumn the US president had threatened to impose 100% tariffs on imports of branded or patented drugs unless the manufacturer built a plant in the US.
Among the companies that struck a deal with the White House to increase their investments in the US in exchange for a suspension of tariffs are Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Novo Nordisk.
