US President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose 100% duties on films distributed in the US but produced abroad. Not only that: the US administration is offering thousand dollars to undocumented migrants who leave, the president is also calling for the reopening of Alcatraz prison.

"The American film industry is dying very quickly," Trump claimed in a post on Truth, stating that "other countries are offering all sorts of incentives to lure our filmmakers and studios away from the United States" so "Hollywood and many other areas of the United States are being devastated." According to the US president, this is "a concerted effort by other nations and, therefore, a threat to national security".

"Therefore, I authorise the Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative to immediately begin the process to impose 100% tariffs on all films coming into our country that are made in foreign countries. WE WANT FILMS MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!" he concluded. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick shared Trump's post, commenting, "We're working on it." Trump's post made no reference to television series.

Newsom: "Trump has no authority for duties on foreign films"

.

"We believe that President Donald Trump does not have the authority to impose tariffs under the International Economic Emergency Powers Act, as tariffs are not listed as a remedy in that law." This was said by Bob Salladay, senior advisor for communications to California Governor Gavin Newsom, to the entertainment website Deadline, regarding the president's intention to put 100 per cent tariffs on foreign manufacturing. California is the first state to have sued the White House against tariffs, and the idea of imposing them on Hollywood could trigger a new lawsuit.

Thousand dollars to illegal migrants

The Trump administration has also started paying $1,000 to each illegal migrant who 'self-deports'. The New York Post reports that migrants can avoid arrest if they choose to leave the US on their own. The Department of Homeland Security will pay for their flight out of the US and send the $1,000 once it has received confirmation of their exit. Those who wish to take advantage of the opportunity will have to do so via the CBP Home app. The initiative, according to the US authorities, will result in large savings for taxpayers, even up to 1 million per family.

Trump also ordered the reopening of the Alcatraz prison, located on an island off the coast of California, which was closed in 1963.

"When we were a more serious nation in the past, we did not hesitate to lock up the most dangerous criminals and keep them away from anyone they might harm. This is how it should be," Trump wrote in a post on Truth, adding, "Today I am ordering the Bureau of Prisons, along with the Department of Justice, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, to reopen ALCATRAZ, expanded and rebuilt, to house America's most ruthless and violent criminals."

"The reopening of ALCATRAZ will be a symbol of Law, Order and JUSTICE," he concluded.

The White House then made it known that Trump had signed an order to reduce regulatory barriers todomestic pharmaceutical production.
