Trump deletes post on Truth in which he performs a miracle
The US president removed the image after harshly attacking the pontiff for his anti-war speech
US President Donald Trump said he was "not a big fan" of Pope Leo XIV, who the day before had delivered a very tough speech against the war, and launched into violent invective against him on social networks, going so far as to post and then delete a picture of himself performing a miracle
"I'm not a big fan of Pope Leo. He's a very liberal person and he's a man who doesn't believe in fighting crime,' Trump told reporters at the military base in Andrews, Maryland. He also accused the pontiff of 'playing with a country that wants to get a nuclear weapon', referring to Iran.
Shortly afterwards, the US president posted a lengthy message on his Truth social network, accusing Leo XIV of supporting Iran's nuclear weapons programme, opposing the US military operation in Venezuela in January, and meeting with sympathisers of former Democratic President Barack Obama, among others.
"I don't want a pope criticising the president of the United States, because I'm doing exactly what I was elected to do, IN A SHOCKING WAY, which is reduce crime to historically low levels and create the greatest stock market in history," the Republican president wrote.
Trump accompanied his message with an AI-generated image in which he is seen, wearing a red and white robe, laying his hand on the forehead of a sick person on a hospital bed, surrounded by people praying, with the American flag, the Statue of Liberty, fighter planes, eagles and other figures in the sky in the background. Later the post was deleted.
