Trump prepares collapse of Cuba's government in summer
This was stated by the US newspaper Axios, citing Washington administration officials
The Trump administration is preparing for the potential collapse of Cuba's totalitarian government as early as this summer and has simulated new plans for a military response should the island descend into chaos. The US website Axios writes this.
President Trump has not authorised an invasion and prefers a peaceful transition to a free Cuba, so the administration will continue to impose economic sanctions to try to strangle the Havana regime with a slow and gradual squeeze.
"The best way to describe it is 'accelerationism'," said a senior administration official, referring to the philosophy that aims to accelerate the collapse of society. "But we don't want to eliminate the regime yet. There is a method, we proceed in stages,' he added. The clampdown on Cuba's communist regime is also designed to give Trump, now engaged in peace talks with Iran, time to focus on Cuba and decide how to implement change in the country.
"Iran is not finished yet and the president is in no hurry," said another senior administration official.
