Trump’s approval ratings remain low, with the economy weighing heavily: approval stands at 34 per cent
The US President’s popularity has fallen, with only a quarter of voters satisfied with his economic policy and the Democrats holding a lead in the polls
Donald Trump is unable to halt the decline in his popularity just a few weeks before the US mid-term elections. According to a Financial Times poll conducted with Focaldata, the president’s overall approval rating remains at 34 per cent, whilst just a quarter of voters approve of his handling of the economy and employment, and only around a fifth approve of his handling of inflation.
More than two-thirds of those surveyed believe that the US economy is heading in the wrong direction. Furthermore, 45 per cent of voters say that Trump is making it harder for Republican candidates to win the November elections.
The Democrats have a lead of more than five percentage points in the polls. According to the Cook Political Report, the party could win between 9 and 19 additional seats in the House of Representatives.
Trump’s popularity is also falling amongst his supporters: fewer than 70 per cent of those who voted for him
In 2024, 80 per cent approve of his performance today, compared with 80 per cent in May. However, 80 per cent still intend to vote for the Republican candidate in their constituency.
