US President Donald Trump has raised the possibility that media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his eldest son Lachlan could be among the investors who will take control of TikTok in the US.
Since his return to power in January, Donald Trump has been trying to keep the popular video application TikTok in the United States, which a law plans to ban on national security grounds. To this end, he is negotiating with Beijing to sell the platform's US operations to a consortium of investors he calls 'patriots', including his ally Larry Ellison, head of tech giant Oracle, and entrepreneur Michael Dell. On Sunday, he added new names to the list.
"They are very well-known people. Larry Ellison is one of them. Michael Dell is involved. A man called Lachlan is involved,' he said in an interview with broadcaster Fox News. 'Lachlan Murdoch you should call him. And Rupert will probably be in the group. I think they will be part of the group,' he added, smiling.
Lachlan Murdoch, head of Fox News is the eldest son of Rupert Murdoch, who has built a media empire in the United States, Great Britain and Australia.
The negotiation with Beijing
The agreement with China for the social network, according to the White House's indications in recent days after the phone call between Trump and Xi, provides for the American division of the social network to pass into the hands of a US company.
