Ukraine, Moscow rejects Easter truce: 'Zelensky works for lasting peace'. Russian attack in Dnipropetrovsk region
While EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kallas is visiting Bucha the Russian army continues to strike at infrastructure on Ukrainian territory
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should be working towards a lasting peace between Moscow and Kiev rather than proposing an Easter truce. Thus Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded in a press briefing to a request for comment on Zelensky's proposal for an Easter truce yesterday, effectively rejecting the offer.
"Zelensky will have to take responsibility and make decisions so that Russia and Ukraine can reach peace," Peskov said. Moreover, the Kremlin, Peskov said, has not received "clear" proposals from Ukraine regarding a ceasefire during the Easter holidays.
"From Zelensky's statements that we have read, we have not seen any clearly formulated initiative for an Easter truce," Peskov told reporters.
Kallas in Bucha: 'No just peace without responsibility'
The 'focus' of the EU foreign ministers' visit to Ukraine 'is also to keep the issue of accountability on the table. Because without accountability, if those crimes go unpunished, then there is no chance to have a just and lasting peace, because justice is part of the peace process".
This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, during a press point in Bucha, on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the liberation of the country, thanks to which the massacre carried out by Russian forces against the residents was discovered. This is why the EU is promoting the creation of the Special Tribunal for Russian war crimes in Ukraine, "but also the Reparations Commission, where people can submit their claims regarding these crimes that have been committed", Kallas added.
