As spring-summer progresses, the season of tourist and historical trains comes into full swing.
In the front row are the companies of the Fs group, i.e. Treni turistici italiani and Fondazione Fs, but also Trenord, the joint company between Trenitalia (Fs) and the Fnm group (Ferrovie nord Milano) that manages rail transport in Lombardy.
Italian Tourist Trains announced the return to the tracks of the Espresso Riviera, the night train that this summer will connect Rome, Genoa and the west of Liguria directly with the Côte d'Azur, as far as Marseille.
The service will run from Friday 4 July until Saturday 30 August, departing every Friday from Roma Termini station and arriving in Marseille on Saturday. The return journey will depart from Marseille on Saturday and arrive in Rome on Sunday morning (tickets have been on sale since yesterday on the www.fstrenituristici.it website and at station ticket offices; prices start at €14.90 from Liguria to the Côte d'Azur and €71 from Rome).
For admirers of the Arlecchino, the train that symbolised the economic boom of the 1960s with the Settebello, the date to be circled in red is Sunday 29 June: by historical train from Milano Centrale to Desenzano (Lake Garda) and Verona. Departure at 9.20 a.m., return at 3.25 p.m. (ticket cost: 19 euros; free for children under 14).
