Venice, who is Simone Venturini who can give victory to the centre-right: Brugnaro's councillor for 11 years

In the end the centro-right saw fit to support the candidate who could take over Luigi Brugnaro's legacy at the Venice City Council. In Laguna, Venturini's was no surprise, since in the general consideration he is to all intents and purposes the 'dauphin' of the former mayor.

Venturini, so far well ahead, if elected will become the youngest first citizen in the history of the city of Venice. Born in the working-class hamlet of Marghera, a law graduate and active in the associative, parish and cultural spheres, Venturini was first elected city councillor in 2010 with the Udc, of which he was council group leader. In the 2015 municipal elections he was elected for the centre-right, and was delegated to Social Cohesion, Labour, Infrastructure and Economic Development, which he confirmed in his second term.

'To be nominated as mayor of my city at 38 years of age,' he commented at the time of the nomination, 'is a great honour and burden'. In his opinion, 'it is a sign that every young person in Venice can build their future here. I also received from the coalition the mandate to coordinate the writing of a common programme and to initiate an open dialogue with other civic, associative and political realities potentially interested in sharing this path'. A precise signal, 'the coalition is not closing in on itself, but proposing itself as the open nucleus of a broader project, capable of intercepting energies, skills and representations that recognise in the good governance of the city their point of convergence'.
