Versace, Pieter Mulier is the new creative director
A week ago Mulier announced his farewell to the Alaïa maison, of which he had been creative director for five years. As of 1 July, he will take over from Dario Vitale, who left Versace two months ago
Pieter Mulier has been appointed as the new creative director of Versace. After five years at the helm of the Alaïa maison, controlled by the Richemont group, the Belgian designer will take over the creative reins of the Medusa brand, part of the Prada group since last April (the deal was closed last December), about two months after the departure of former creative director Dario Vitale, who presented his only collection for Versace last September in Milan.
"As we considered the acquisition of Versace, we identified Pieter Mulier as the right person for the role of designer for the brand," said Lorenzo Bertelli, executive chairman of Versace, in a note released by the group. "We are confident that he will be able to fully express Versace's potential and establish a deep dialogue with the brand's history and distinctive aesthetic; we are excited to embark on this journey together.
During his career, and before joining Alaïa, Mulier collaborated with brands such as Raf Simons, Jil Sander, Dior and Calvin Klein. He will present his latest collection for Alaïa next March in Paris. Among his successors, rumours point to Oliver Rousteing, former creative director of Lanvin.
