Key points
The Vespa, which turns 80 this year and has always been one of the most iconic symbols of Italian design, as well as featuring in dozens of films, has chosen the city of Rome to celebrate its milestone birthday. A true celebration that, for four days from 25 to 28 June, will bring together the Vespa community from all over the world at the Foro Italico, where the Vespa Village will be set up, with riders parading through the capital’s most iconic locations. The event, which will celebrate the Vespa – now a global phenomenon with 20 million vehicles produced – will be free and open to the public, featuring a packed programme.
Vespa enthusiasts from over 60 countries across 5 continents are expected
The highlight of the celebrations will be the grand parade on 27 June, featuring Vespas riding through iconic locations, ridden by Vespa enthusiasts from 60 countries across five continents. This will be preceded by the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the official opening of the Vespa Village on Thursday 25 June. This will be followed by the presentation of the commemorative coin issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and produced by the State Printing Works and Mint, alongside a postmark cancellation ceremony by Poste Italiane. Then it will be time for the photographic exhibition marking 80 years of Vespa, featuring many historic and unique pieces.
The Concours d’Elegance will be one of the most spectacular highlights
The Vespa Village will be open from 10.00 am on Friday 26th. The spotlight will be on the Vespa Clubs with the European Vespa Rally Championship, alongside another world-class gymkhana championship. On Saturday, as mentioned, it will be time for the grand Parade, whilst on Sunday 28th the Concours d’Elegance is scheduled, which, as is tradition, will be one of the most spectacular moments of the entire programme of celebrations. The Vespa Village is scheduled to close at 3.00 pm, marking the end of the event celebrating the legendary two-wheeler, which this year celebrated its 80th anniversary.
Don’t miss the exhibition of special, unique and historic Vespas
A programme of dedicated events has been created for Vespa Club members from around the world, featuring activities that all event participants can enjoy in addition to the Vespa Parade. These include sporting and lifestyle events, as well as services and benefits reserved for all participants. There will also be an exhibition of special Vespas, historic models and pieces representing a unique heritage. An opportunity to discover up close the details, shapes and stories that have helped make the Vespa famous worldwide, not only as a means of transport but as a symbol of Italian creativity.
