The positive trend characterises all macro-categories. Both Italians (from 29,602,385 to 30,714,385, an increase equal to +3.76%) and foreigners (from 37,881,778 to 40,964,255, equal to +8.14%) grew. In addition, it emerges that the strengthening of the market benefited both hotel establishments (from 36,046,425 to 37,034,814, or +2.74%) and extra hotel establishments (from 31,437,738 to 34,643,826, or +10.2%).

Santanchè: Viminale certifies growth in tourism

"Tourism in Italy continues to grow. The 'Alloggiati web' platform of the Viminale certifies, in fact, a 6.22% increase in tourists in the summer of 2025 compared to 2024. This is an important success for the entire nation, which moreover confirms what was predicted at the beginning of the season. The growth concerns Italian and foreign tourists, in every type of structure, throughout the country. It is proof that the sector is in full health and represents a driving force for our economy," commented Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè. "In this positive scenario, we are celebrating tourism in Rome with the 'WTTC Global Summit'," she continues, "the largest event in the world dedicated to the sector, which is coming to Italy for the first time. A testimony to Italy's newfound centrality at the international level thanks to the work and authority of the Meloni government'.

Coldiretti: agritourism eco-holiday leader, in 10 years +70% arrivals

"In the last ten years, arrivals in agritourism have increased by 70%, with holidays in the countryside increasingly asserting itself as the emblem of sustainability and rediscovery of the culture of the territories". This is what emerges from an analysis by Coldiretti and Campagna Amica released on the occasion of World Tourism Day, which is celebrated today, 27 September, and which is dedicated this year precisely to the commitment to the enhancement of lesser-known places, against the damage caused by overtourism. In 2025, 5.1 million arrivals are estimated in the over 26,000 national agritourism facilities, with a growth in comparison with a decade ago that rises to 100% if only foreigners are considered. This success is driven by the ever-increasing professionalisation of Italy's agritourisms, which over the years have been able to propose an increasingly varied offer. Food and wine and the rediscovery of the agricultural culinary tradition, with the phenomenon of peasant cooks, has been combined with the novelty of experiential tourism. If wine tourism paved the way, today the possibilities have extended to beer tourism, oil tourism and cheese tourism. It is no coincidence that almost four out of ten Italians (39%) have taken part in activities such as tastings, guided visits to wineries, oil mills, dairies or breweries, and cookery courses in the last year, according to the Coldiretti/Ixe' survey. In parallel, there is also a growing phenomenon of rural walks, itineraries to be followed on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, offering a slow, sustainable and immersive way of exploring the landscape.
