From the reminder sent by text message to the penalty for those who do not cancel in time. Not forgetting what is called the 'transparent management of booking diaries'. The Regional Council of Sardinia has approved guidelines for the reduction of waiting lists that, in some cases, exceed 300 days. Speaking of a 'revolution in the regional Cup' is Health Councillor Armando Bartolazzi, who speaks of a 'unique, dynamic, flexible system capable of significantly reducing waiting lists and supporting the user who turns to the regional health service in all his needs'.
Transparent diaries
.The first point envisaged by the guidelines is the so-called booking agenda, which will become 'transparent'. This will be achieved through 'monitoring of cancellations through checks and recall, introduction of active lists to use the spaces made available by cancellations, penalties for failure to give notice of cancellations'. The revolution will concern the 'first access' agendas. "The company managements must implement these provisions immediately," the councillor argues, "and failure to do so will be subject to negative assessment for company performance and result pay.
Citizens empowered
.The new guide also foresees an empowerment of patients because, as the regional executive adds, "often agendas are stretched by bookings that users do not follow up and do not communicate their cancellation. For this reason, reminders will be sent by text message and email 15 days in advance for programmable or deferrable services and at least 48 hours in advance for all of them in order to remind them of the appointment and allow them to cancel it".
Those who can no longer make the visit must cancel within two days of the appointment, otherwise penalties will be triggered. "The reminders sent to users will contain appropriate information on the matter and will have to provide for an active response for confirmation or cancellation," he adds. Companies will have to ensure the application of penalties, which for non-exempt patients who do not show up without justified cancellation will consist of payment of the fee for the cost of the service'.
Not only that: 'Transparent criteria will be defined for the order of callbacks, giving priority to patients who have not responded to reminders, who have urgent bookings, marked with the letter U, short bookings marked with B, or who fall under services under regional monitoring,' he adds. The aim is to recall 100 per cent of these priority patients, who will have to be informed about the different cancellation methods available, both over the counter and electronically'.
