In recent years, the issue of security of supply chains and in particular the need to ensure continuity of supply - after the many bottlenecks created as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic and then the war between Russia and Ukraine - has become central for European companies.

The solutions devised and developed were of different types, but all had as their lowest common denominator the desire to reduce distances to suppliers and increase control over the supply chain.

The initiative of We.Do Holding, a Padua-based group in the furniture-design sector, which presented 'Supply Echosystem', a project that has two objectives: to give companies in the production chain the opportunity to benefit from a solid and reliable certification and supply chain rating system, new financial instruments and real possibilities to be more sustainable (also through the sustainable supply chain contract signed with Intesa-Sanpaolo); and to implement an osmosis of skills between the parent company, its companies and the chain of suppliers, according to the contractual model of business networks.

Today, the We.Do Holding group (330 million euro turnover in 2023 and 28 million euro Ebitda) is made up of 11 companies, which design and produce systems and solutions for the home, corporate and project world (kitchens, living rooms, sofas, office furniture and seating, lighting, bathroom furniture, medical devices and furnishings). With its contract division, it operates as a general contractor for turnkey projects, and also follows the interior design of projects, taking care of the building envelope in its entirety, from construction to the supply of furniture and complementary services such as energy management and operational rental.

In the business plan 2025-2028, which will be approved in the coming months, not only the construction of buildings, furnishing and the provision of technology, but also the management of sustainable services, such as utilities and energy production, will be set as a group objective.

The 'Supply Echosystem' project fits exactly into this logic: We.Do Holding is rethinking its organisational structure, overseeing the supply chain through an organisational model that, in addition to the benefits of supply chain ratings, provides for the transfer of skills and knowledge between the supply chain and group companies.

"In most current supply chain experiences," explains We.Do Holding President Andrea Olivi, "there is an asymmetry that leads to the maximisation of the advantage for the prime contractor. The same approach is found in general contractor supply models, for which value is generated by 'squeezing' the supplier. Our project, on the other hand, is highly innovative in that it starts with the search for the convenience of the subjects participating in the agreement, in addition to the group companies, of course. The subjects that are part of the group supply chain system receive skills and knowledge from our companies and transfer them to them, enabling their respective employees to expand their skills and implement efficiency and effectiveness, generating more value for customers and stakeholders.

For the CEO of the holding company, Ivano Selvestrel, 'As a third party, legally and entrepreneurially autonomous, the supply chain will be able to finance its working capital and support business investments. It will be able to benefit not only from the parent company's rating, but also from more advanced financial instruments: we are studying, together with banking institutions, innovative forms connected to a marked digitisation of organisational processes'.

According to group estimates, with the 'Supply Echosystem' project, We.Do Holding could gain a further market share and reach an aggregate turnover of EUR 1 billion in 2028.
