The Lazio Region has ordered the extension of the Nucleic Acid Test for West Nile Virus to all blood donors in the Lazio Region. These are new precautionary measures to protect public health and transfusion safety, adopted by the Region, in view of the evolution of the epidemiological picture relating to the spread of the West Nile Virus, with particular reference to the province of Latina.
The Regional Health and Social-Health Integration Directorate has ordered the extension of the test 'in line with the provisions of the Ministry of Health Circular No. 3363 of 5 February 2025, which updates the Regional Plan for the Prevention, Surveillance and Response to Arboviruses for the current year, and taking into account the indications contained in the note of the National Blood Centre (CNS), prot. No. 2025_0020412 of 14 May 2025'. With this initiative, the Lazio Region, through its transfusion system, 'reaffirms its maximum commitment to guaranteeing high standards of safety and quality, in full compliance with national and international recommendations. The extension of the test will be active throughout the region until further notice and will be constantly monitored on the basis of epidemiological trends'.
