Sogei, a public company whose CEO Paolino Iorio ended up under house arrest for alleged bribery - stands for Società Generale d'Informatica S.p.A. - and deals with information technology. It is 100% controlled by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and operates on the basis of the in-house providing organisational model.
IT Services for Public Administration
."Our mission" - reads the Profile section of the institutional website - "as a strategic partner of the Economic and Financial Administration, is to contribute to the modernisation of the country, actively participating in the process of digital transformation of the Public Administration". In particular, the subsidiary Mef manages 'IT services capable of governing the complexity of the public system, such as the Tax Information System and the automation of operational and management processes of the Ministry, Court of Auditors, Tax Agencies and other public administrations'.
Merger to strengthen role as technology partner
After the recent merger (1 January 2024) with SOSE SpA (Soluzioni per il Sistema Economico, a company owned by the Mef and the Bank of Italy, operating since 1999 in the field of strategic data analysis in tax and business economics) and the incorporation of the ICT branch of Agenzia entrate Riscossione (reorganisation envisaged by law 112/2023) Sogei confirms itself as the main technological partner of via XX Settembre for the 'grounding' of the tax reform, in particular for the management of tax reports. Uniting the forces of Sose and Sogei government and financial administration aim to have at their disposal an operational arm able to accelerate the projects of technological development and integration also of the other databases 'outside' the tax registry already currently used for tax report cards.
Personal Data and Cybersecurity
Among the core areas of the company's activity are cybersecurity and personal data protection, areas that 'represent for Sogei a driver of innovation that we share with our stakeholders'. The company's presentation guarantees, in this respect, 'the utmost seriousness, ethics and, above all, responsibility, a value that for our company, which manages people's data, is an indispensable element'.
From June 2023 Sogei's CEO is engineer Cristiano Cannarsa, a manager with consolidated experience in the public administration sector, coming from Consip and who previously held the position of CEO of Sogei. The economic results achieved by the company in 2022 include revenues of EUR 876 million, an operating cash flow of EUR 120.8 million, and investments of almost EUR 140 million. In the year under review, profit amounted to 69 million euro.
