What is 24ORE NextMed: outlook, diplomacy and strategies
A platform covering training, safety and economic power. Print, TV, digital, podcasts and multimedia content. Plus a new permanent observatory to make things happen
In a global context characterised by the fragmentation of strategic balances, regional conflicts and growing technological and demographic competition, the Il Sole 24 Ore Next Med project represents not only an editorial innovation, but also a means of projecting economic, communicative and ‘diplomatic’ influence across the wider Mediterranean region.
24 Ore Next Med is an initiative designed to deliver information to the decision-making centres where it is needed. Through a multi-channel format, the project aims to foster Euro-Mediterranean dialogue by addressing the challenges of education and economic development. Education, culture, security and economic power are, in fact, the fundamental assets for the future of Italia, the European Union and all the nations bordering or exerting influence over the Mare Nostrum.
Contents
Training is one of the key pillars for the development of relations between Mediterranean countries. It requires a flow of information capable of creating economies of scale around this issue. Above all, it warrants the creation of an overarching framework that underpins a strategic vision. To engage far more companies, pool efforts and investments, and offer a glimmer of hope amidst Europe’s demographic winter. Geopolitical blocs are in constant flux. Opportunities for development, and for industrial and social interaction across the Mediterranean, therefore deserve constant attention and targeted promotion. Building supply chains means revitalising a region stretching from continental Europe to the Sahel and the Middle East. Assets require security. And the security of networks, data, port basins, seabeds and food security are all intertwined with the complex web of new technologies. We will focus on the geographical area bordering the Mediterranean, but also on its wider reach: the Balkans, Turkey and the Gulf States, whilst monitoring the progress of the IMEC corridor that carries water from the Mare Nostrum all the way to India.
The programme schedule
On this basis, the project unfolds across all the group’s platforms: TV, print, digital, infographics, radio and, finally, a dedicated section on the Radiocor press agency. A regular feature in the daily newspaper is linked to a section on the website which, in addition to Italian and English, publishes content in Arabic on a daily basis.
A new weekly TV programme has been launched, originally conceived for channel 246 on digital terrestrial television, but with content also available online. *Confini, dove il mondo cambia* (Borders: Where the World Changes) uses 24-minute episodes to explore the places where different systems converge and give rise to geopolitical, economic and social tensions. From migration across the Mediterranean to strategic trade routes, the series explores the dynamics through which infrastructure, demographics and security are redefining global power. Food crises and new energy rivalries demonstrate how resources influence political stability and prices for citizens and businesses. At the same time, technological and biomedical innovations are redefining the relationship between freedom, health and power. The Sahel, the Mediterranean, new global rivalries: borders are becoming the crucible where the future of societies is decided.
