It is the bo0omers' revenge, the end of a nightmare for some of them, or more prosaically, the possibility of not having to listen to very long vowels that could be summarised in a few lines.
We are talking about voicemail, the kind you leave on WhatsApp and which were created to make messages faster but only for those who need to talk. Hated by Millennials who grew up writing and hailed by GenZ onwards because they don't even require the effort of using a keyboard.
After the trial version in February, a feature capable of 'translating' voice messages into written text will arrive in the coming weeks for both iOS and Android. It will start with selected languages and then, as the instant messaging app has become accustomed to, the new feature will be extended to all.
To activate the function, go to Settings > Chat > Voice Message Transcription. Materially, to transcribe a voice message you hold down the message and then tap 'Transcribe'.
We do not know if it will be error-free, but who does not make typing mistakes when they have to write a message on their mobile phone in a hurry? Better, some will say, than listening to messages that are longer than three or four minutes and arise from practical needs.
