1 May long weekend, in Rome Carabinieri controls from stations to the metro: 32 arrests and 16 reports
Narcotics but also weapons and ammunition were discovered in operations throughout the capital
On the occasion of the 1 May holiday, the Carabinieri of the Rome group stepped up their external services to improve the control of the territory with patrols on foot, in cars and on motorbikes, and to monitor road safety, in order to ensure a peaceful stay for the many tourists welcomed to Rome. Controls were carried out near railway stations, in underground stations, on board public transport, in the places most frequented by tourists and in the main gathering places.
From dealing to stealing
The balance of the activities conducted by the Carabinieri was 32 people arrested, 16 of whom were caught red-handed for the crime of possession and trafficking of drugs, six for aggravated theft, one for possession of illegal weapons and ammunition, two for evasion, one for attempted robbery and six because they had been ordered to be arrested. A further 16 people were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office, while 14 drug users were reported to the Prefecture.
Discovered weapons
During the operations conducted, irregularly held or counterfeit weapons were discovered, as well as three stun and blinding grenades (so-called 'flash bang' grenades), which were found by the Carabinieri of the Rome Piazza Dante company inside a storage room.

Overall, the action of the departments resulted in the removal of a large quantity of drugs from the city areas, including approximately 566 grams of hashish, 235 grams of cocaine, 378 grams of crack cocaine, 67 grams of heroin, 46 grams of ketamine, as well as ecstasy tablets and 20 Rivotril tablets, together with 4,900 euro in cash: a sum believed to be the proceeds of illegal activities.
