Aix en Provence and the places of Paul Cézanne

In 2025, Aix en Provence celebrates the great bond between the town and Paul Cézanne. From 28 June to 12 October, in fact, the Musée Granet is presenting the international exhibition 'Cézanne at the Jas de Bouffan', on the painter's relationship with what was for 40 years his family home, the bastide of the Jas de Bouffan, revealing among other things the recent discovery of one of his works in the Grand Salon. Among the novelties to be discovered is the Lauves atelier, the painter's last studio, which will gradually reopen its doors from this summer, allowing a true immersion in the painter's creative intimacy before taking a walk in the park. Another place that opens up perspectives on the artist's creative world is the Carrières de Bibemus, on a plateau 6 km from Aix-en-Provence, where Cézanne used to go for a walk and paint. Here the painter produced 11 oils and 16 watercolours, including the world-famous work Le rocher rouge. It is possible to visit the Bibemus quarries to discover a landscape that seems to have come straight out of the artist's canvases: the tour lasts up to three hours and is a real museum en plein air. Here you can immerse yourself in a unique sensory experience in the very places where the painter painted his last canvases. The guided tour of the last painting period of the father of modern painting also includes, if you wish, a drawing workshop and a tasting of local products for a unique interactive experience. A green idea is to tour this place on an electric bike.
