From Bruges to Leuven lights and atmosphere in Flanders
Antwerp focuses on skating and catering
During the Christmas period in Antwerp, ice skating rinks are set up in five squares of the city. New this year is the winter bistro curated by a leading name in Antwerp catering, Devin by Sepi, set up on the Hendrik Conscienceplein square. But to really warm up, the best place is one of the city's museums, which put on a programme of winter exhibitions investigating the world of women, right up to the modernism of Marthe Donas at Kmksa.
For those who want to isolate themselves from the hustle and bustle of the festivities, a walk among the open-air sculptures in the Middelheim park-museum offers moments of beauty and relaxation. In the city, one can breathe in the Baroque legacy of Peter Paul Rubens with his artistic masterpieces, but one can also discover the charm of the station, an architectural masterpiece described as a 'railway cathedral', or that of the harbour, which is the beating heart of the metropolis, without forgetting the role Antwerp plays in the field of fashion thanks to its influential academy and designers, or the glittering jewellery shops with their precious diamonds in the shop window.
