Social car hire: programme for low-emission cars at 100 euros a month gets underway
The pilot scheme, running until 2030, offers families with an ISEE of less than 30,000 euros new Euro 6 cars on a three-year lease with the option to purchase the vehicle at a discounted price at the end of the term
The long-term social leasing scheme for low-emission vehicles is now underway. The Dpcm Automotive of 3 July has been registered with the Court of Auditors, thereby giving concrete form to the measure presented by the Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italia, Adolfo Urso, together with the President of the Automobile Club d’Italia, Geronimo La Russa, at the end of July.
The scheme, which is being trialled until 30 June 2030, is run jointly by Mimit and Aci and is aimed at households with an ISEE of less than 30,000 euros.
Minimum contract term of 36 months
The scheme is simple: the hire of new cars registered in Italia, category M1, meeting at least Euro 6 emissions standards and emitting no more than 135 grams of CO₂ per kilometre. Minimum contract term of 36 months, monthly hire charge of 100 euros including VAT, annual mileage limit of 12,000 kilometres.
The condition for access is the scrapping of a vehicle up to Euro 4 standard that has been owned for at least one year.
At the end of the three-year period, it will be possible to buy the car outright with a 10 per cent discount on the market value. Applications will be processed via an online portal, the details of which are still being finalised, with priority given in chronological order of submission.
