Between Acaya, San Cataldo and the energy of Tha Cava

Tha Cava tra Vernole e la città ideale di Acaya

We are in the vicinity of Acaya, the ideal village that Alfonso di Acaya began to build in 1506, starting with the castle, while his son Giangiacomo would wall it in three decades later, fortifying it with ramparts, bastions and a moat and giving the entire village an urban plan that has remained unchanged to this day, almost next to the San Cataldo marina characterised by the iconic Faro (lighthouse) and the roundish Lido Turrisi. Among these timeless architectures, hidden in the olive grove countryside that surrounds Melendugno's beaches and yellow stone cliffs, Tha Cava can now rightfully be found. It consists of a 7,000 square metre botanical space created in the archaic belly of a disused industrial stone quarrying plant, recovered and revitalised in recent times by planting numerous species of fruit trees, succulent plants, hazelnuts and apple trees, as well as citrus fruits and vegetables. Having become a minimalist archetype of an ethical and bio-dynamic second life, Tha cava can host yoga sessions and spiritual disciplines, as well as events in this park where there is also a longitudinal pool, bark and root sculptures, and bronze material works.
