In the Tutino Castle cultural and gastronomic forge

Il Castello di Tutino

It retains its thick walls up to seven metres high, as well as five towers scanning the entire perimeter, connected by a vertiginous walkway. The Tutino Castle later became a stately home with a Renaissance façade on two levels and still boasts architraves, Latin epigraphs and decorated windows. Until the 1960s, some of the interior spaces were used for tobacco manufacturing, a primary source of income throughout Salento at that time. Now, thanks to the incessant activity of director Edoardo Winspeare, it has become the Lower Salento's cultural forge, hosting literary meetings, musical evenings, events linked to local traditions and folklore and theatrical performances. The renovation of the courtyards and inner rooms has made it possible to enhance its architecture, while in its restaurant, Limanda, visitors can enjoy tasty dishes that exalt the peasant and maritime flavours of the Salento.
