Between the moose and limestones of Pistolet Bay and Table Point

Nel Pistolet Bay Proinvicla Park

One should not be impressed when one glimpses a pair of moose nearby. In the almost 900-hectare Pistolet Bay Provincial Park, located in the Great Northern Peninsula, close encounters of this kind are quite common. Especially in the area of the Burnt Cape Ecological Reserve where more than 300 plant species have been recorded, many of which are considered very rare, especially the Burnt Cape Cinquefoil with its delicate yellow flowers. Closed to vehicles and only open to visitors when the ground is dry, it is a mosaic of limestone heaths. In contrast, the Table Point Ecological Reserve amazes with the energetic force emanating from its geology: it consists of a promontory containing highly fossiliferous limestone dating back 460 million years. All its rocks clearly testify to changes in the continental shelf of an ancient ocean. It is also home to numerous limestone flora.
