Charging point subsidy scheme gets underway: from eligibility criteria to costs, here’s how to apply
Among other measures, the ACI’s social car hire scheme for those on low incomes
From 12 noon on Tuesday 22 September, applications may be submitted for the Mimit grant for the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure for private use. The subsidy for domestic charging points has a budget of 68 million euros until 2030 and is a measure set out in the multi-year programme for theautomotive sector, as set out in the Prime Ministerial Decree (DPCM) of 10 June, published in the Official Gazette No. 155 of 7 July.
Bonuses and allocated resources
The bonus covers 80 per cent of the costs incurred for the purchase and installation of charging infrastructure, up to a maximum of 1,500 euros for each individual applicant (8,000 euros in the case of work carried out on the communal areas of blocks of flats). The Automotive Prime Ministerial Decree allocates a total of 1 billion 343 million euros to support businesses in the sector, with approximately 70 per cent earmarked for innovation agreements signed by companies.
Commercial vehicles
Other measures include incentives for the purchase and leasing of new commercial vehicles (categories N1 and N2) intended for SMEs in the freight transport sector. In total, with a deadline of 31 March 2030, €180 million is available for differentiated grants based on the vehicle’s power source.
New incentives
We will, however, have to wait until 1 January 2027 for the new round of incentives – totalling 90 million euros – for the purchase and leasing of new electric or hybrid motorbikes, scooters and quadricycles.
Social hire
Finally, on a trial basis, the Prime Ministerial Decree provides for the launch of the so-called ACI social car hire scheme, a form of subsidised leasing for those on low incomes, with an ISEE of less than 30,000 euros. It will be possible to sign a leasing contract of at least three years for new cars, registered in Italia, category M1, at least Euro 6 standard and with CO₂ emissions per kilometre of less than 135 grams (there is also a requirement to scrap a car up to Euro 4 standard). The monthly hire charge will be €100 including VAT, with a limit of 12,000 kilometres per year.
