Traffic was suspended in both directions on the Ospitaletto-Montichiari (Corda Molle) motorway link road, which connects the A4 motorway (Ospitaletto tollgate) to the A21 motorway (Poncarale tollgate) and Montichiari airport, after an ultralight aircraft with two people on board crashed on the motorway axis, catching fire. The entrance from Azzano Mella to the slip road in the direction of Milan was also closed.
Since around 1 p.m., the fire brigade has been operating on the stretch of motorway involved to allow rescue operations and verification activities by the competent authorities. Due to causes that are still being ascertained, the aircraft crashed and caught fire on impact, leaving the occupants on board with no chance. Numerous fire brigade vehicles were on the scene to extinguish the fire and secure the area.
