Discover Brittany in the company of Maupassant
The most worthy start to a coastal and, above all, literary trip to Brittany can only be the city of Roman origin called Vannes, overlooking the Gulf of Morbihan. It was from this walled medieval jewel, still accessible today through its fortified gates, winding streets and cobbled squares, also famous for its small harbour still used by fishermen, that Guy de Maupassant, writer and vigorous man - he lived just 42 years, but all of them intensely - set off to discover this land of sandy bays, mysterious moors, imperious lighthouses, frowning castles and proud people. All aspects that appealed greatly to the author of Au soleil, al soleil, the book based on this experience, and that still attract those who wish to set out, at least a little, in the footsteps of a decidedly wandering author who defined the journey as 'a kind of door through which one leaves reality as if to enter an unexplored reality that seems like a dream'.
