Campania: root tourism in Caiazzo

Nestled in the rolling hills of the Media Valle del Volturno, Caiazzo is a charming medieval village known for its authenticity and slow pace of life. In spring, the 'Turismo delle Radici' initiative is scheduled, dedicated to the rediscovery of local origins and traditions, with guided tours, cultural events and activities for Caiazzo descendants around the world. In summer, the Festival Jovinelli, a cultural and artistic event with theatrical shows, concerts and touring performances in the historic centre, is held, while in July there is the Maddalena Fair, a historic town fair with exhibitions, markets and tastings of typical local products.

Strolling through the cobbled alleys in the heart of the village, which retains the atmosphere of the past, one can admire ancient palaces, stone portals and enchanting views. The co-cathedral of Maria Santissima Assunta and Santo Stefano Vescovo is the most important place of worship and historical and artistic testimony of the town. The town's castle, on the other hand, is located on the top of the hill, dominating the middle Volturno valley. It hosted illustrious personalities such as Alfonso d'Aragona and Lucrezia d'Alagno and today is a private property that cannot be visited. Another place of interest is the church and convent of San Francesco. The complex, founded in the 14th century, is a significant example of medieval sacred architecture linked to the presence of Franciscan friars. Also worth mentioning are Palazzo Mazziotti and Museo Kere, the latter dedicated to the area's rural civilisation and traditions.

Caiazzo is now famous for its pizza, with renowned establishments attracting visitors from all over the world and where, along with the restaurants, typical products such as extra virgin olive oil and local cheeses can be tasted.
