Carinthia: In Search of Water

A travelling companion that constantly changes form, flowing through streams or plunging over waterfalls, winding through gorges and carving out caves and mines beneath the earth. Water in Carinthia is a recurring feature and, for those travelling in this region, serves as a sort of natural guide to alternating between easy walks, more active experiences and attractions off the beaten track. The nature trails in Liebenfels and the Radenthein Mill Trail follow streams and torrents through woods and meadows and require no special equipment or preparation, offering routes suitable even for less experienced walkers. Staying with underground attractions, in Bad Bleiberg you can learn about the region’s mining history by entering the mountain via a 68-metre slide and taking a train ride through tunnels and reconstructions. Finally, those wishing to turn water into sport can set their sat-nav for the Möll, Gail and Drava – three rivers offering opportunities for kayaking, rafting and other water-based activities.
