Carinthia seen from above between lookout towers and high altitude routes

There is a very special (and pleasant) way to discover the beauty of Carinthia, which not only follows paths, cycle paths and roads, but also runs vertically, between viewpoints and belvederes that allow you to take in the whole landscape using the sharper spring light. One of the region's landmarks is the Pyramidenkogel lookout tower, a wooden and steel structure rising almost a hundred metres above Wörthersee. From its summit, a 360-degree view opens up over the valley of the lakes and the surrounding mountain ranges. The ascent on foot up its 441 steps (or with the lift) gradually leads to ever wider platforms, turning the observation of the landscape into a progressive experience. The Goldeck, Nassfeld and Katschberg ski lifts, on the other hand, connect valley floors and alpine areas, allowing people to quickly reach vantage points without having to contend with long gradients, while even higher up, the Ankogel cable car takes you to over 2,600 metres, from where the view extends to the peaks of the Hohe Tauern. No less impressive are the observation points from above that are accessible in some urban centres. In Villach, for example, the bell tower of St. Jakob's Church allows you to climb up 239 steps to a height of 94 metres and enjoy a view of the entire town and in the distance the mountains of the Hohe Tauern and Julian Alps. In Klagenfurt, on the other hand, it is the tower of the St. Egyd church that turns into a panoramic balcony (from the platform at a height of about 50 metres) over the old town centre and the nearby lake
