There are now 14 Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy: in addition to the confirmation of all 13 chefs from last year, the prestigious award of the Michelin Guide 2025 also goes to Giancarlo Perbellini of the 12 Apostles in Verona.
Winning second Michelin stars for the first time (now 38 in all) were Villa Elena in Bergamo, chef Marco Galtarossa, and Campo del Drago by Matteo Temperini in Montalcino. There are 33 new single stars (341 in all), making a total of 36 'new starred entries'.
Eleven restaurants also received the Green Star (now 69) for their commitment to sustainability. In the meantime, the 16 new Bib Gourmands, i.e. the best addresses in terms of value for money, have already been announced in the 2025 edition. For a total selection of almost 2,000 restaurants. Although 17 stars have been lost, Italy remains the most awarded country after France and Japan.
'It was a great return,' Perbellini, who recently returned to Verona to the restaurant next to Piazza delle Erbe and a stone's throw from Romeo and Juliet's balcony, said on stage, 'it is a magical place. The history of gastronomy and the history of Italian culture has passed there. And it is an acknowledgement of my passion: I started when I was 14 and my free days were spent going to see the menus of great restaurants. Now I share this achievement with Silvia (his wife, ed) who pushed me to do a triple somersault. Now I'd like children to be able to rediscover manual skills in schools, we should make them play with pasta and dough'.
"In a place that has made history," is the Michelin's motivation, "where the chef trained as a young boy, a concert of flavours is now staged, combining tradition and innovation with respect for seasonality and raw materials. The chef pays homage to and reinterprets Italian cuisine with modern techniques and a personal touch, offering an experience worth the journey. The Sesame wafer with sea bass tartare and a touch of liquorice is just one of many classics that will remain in your heart.
It is worth mentioning the other 13 establishments that, as the Guide usually writes, are worth a trip: Villa Crespi Orta San Giulio (No), chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo; Piazza Duomo in Alba (Cn), chef Enrco Crippa; Da Vittorio in Brusaporto (Bg), chef Enrico and Roberto Cerea; Le Calandre in Rubano (Pd), chef Massimiliano Alajmo; Dal Pescatore in Canneto Sull'Oglio (Mn), chef Nadia and Giovanni Santini; Osteria Francescana in Modena, chef Massimo Bottura; Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence, chef Riccardo Monco; La Pergola in Rome, chef Heinz Beck; Reale in Castel di Sangro (Aq), chef Niko Romito; Uliassi in Senigallia (An), Enrico Bartolini at Mudec in Milan, Quattro Passi in Nerano (Na), chef Fabrizio Mellino, and Norbert Niederkofler Atelier Moessmer in Brunico (BZ).
