Out-of-home consumption, pizzerias remain the favourite venue for 3 out of 4 Italians

Forget sushi: Italy's 34,406 pizzerias are the most popular place to eat with 74% of preferences (in terms of popularity, they are followed by bars and restaurants practically on a par with 65% and 64% of preferences).

Data from the 'Guida HoReCa Italia' by Cga by NielsenIq also show that 27% of pizzerias are located in large cities and 73% in more peripheral locations; 40% are in coastal areas and only 2% are in the mountains.

Campania, Apulia, Molise, Basilicata, Calabria and Sicily make up 34% of the total market by supply and consumption, followed by Tuscany, Latium, Marche, Umbria, Abruzzo and Sardinia at 27%, in third place the North-West (Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria and Valle D'Aosta) with 22%, and finally with 18% of premises and consumers there are the regions of Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Emilia Romagna and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
The pizzeria chains, on the other hand, are located in Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta with over 75%.

The most consumed beverage with the ever-present pizza is beer, in 4 out of 6 cases from a national or regional brand, 28% is craft or imported (for a total of 18% of the total expenditure of beer consumers in the out-of-home market).
A curiosity: staff recommendations, with 19%, are increasingly influential in the choice of what to drink.
Sparkling wines, including prosecco, are chosen instead by 23% of pizza-goers.
