Viljandi

Heading south, the Estonian summer reveals a wealth of cultural events and concerts. Until 18 July, Pärnu, the country’s summer capital, is hosting the renowned Music Festival and the Järvi Academy, a leading centre for international orchestral music. Shortly afterwards, from 23 to 26 July, the historic town of Viljandi is transformed for its renowned Folk Music Festival, where traditional Baltic instruments blend with contemporary sounds amidst the castle ruins, whilst also offering the chance to sample local cuisine at the open-air markets. Tartu, too, an important cultural centre, enriches the summer calendar with major events, such as Moby’s concert on 6 August, followed by the Treski Festival, which from 7 to 9 August combines creativity and music in the heart of nature.
