'She is the first woman to rise to this position'. This is how Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti officially announced the appointment of Daria Perrotta as the new State Accountant General. With two degrees, Political Science and Law, and a master's degree in Applied Econometrics, Perrotta has had a career within the institutions in leading positions.

The succession to Biagio Mazzotta

.

After the green light from the Cdm, the opinion of the Corte dei Conti is still needed to take up the role. He will take the place of Biagio Mazzotta, who resigned directed towards the presidency of Fincantieri. A controversial farewell, with the PD accusing the government of spoil system. Mazzotta had ended up in the 'crosshairs' for the Superbonus case, having failed to foresee - this is the more or less explicit accusation levelled at him by the majority - the enormous weight he ended up having on public finances.

All career transitions

.

Born in 1977, a classical high school diploma from the Massimo high school in Rome - the same high school as Mario Draghi - Perrotta's CV includes a long experience as a documentarian in the Budget Committee, from October 2000 to June 2020. Here her professional path met that of Giancarlo Giorgetti, who wanted her at the Mef as director of the legislative office. This is not, however, Perrotta's first experience in government: she was legal advisor to Maria Elena Boschi when she was Minister for Reforms in the Renzi government, coordinator of the activities of the Council of Ministers Secretariat Office in the first Conte government, economic affairs advisor to Dario Franceschini, Minister for Culture, chief of staff to Roberto Garofali in the Draghi experience, with a move to the Lombardy Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors as deputy attorney general. Perrotta is also president of Coni's board of auditors and president of the strategic steering committee of the Digital Republic Fund.ù

Giorgetti: Not from Bankitalia? She's good

"If the Accountant comes not from the Bank of Italy but from the Court of Auditors, have I committed a mortal sin? I have committed a mortal sin'. This is how the Minister of the Economy defends the choice, when asked about the appointment at a press conference at the end of the Council of Ministers. 'Since she is good, everyone says so, I thought of appointing her. Among other things, she has also worked with governments of other colours. If those of the opposition wanted to make a controversy they should have looked for other ground'.
