Leaving Sky, expanding to Dazn. Warner Bros Discovery chooses the sports streaming platform to plant its new flag in the Italian television market. A renewed and extended marriage - a multi-year one - between two protagonists of the sector that is consummated by overcoming the fence that divides traditional TV and the world of streaming. In short, an operation that, from afar, ends up recalling the French deal between TF1 and Netflix: starting from the summer of 2026, Netflix subscribers in France will be able to access the live channels and on-demand content of TF1 - the French generalist television channel - directly from the streaming service's platform, without having to leave the application the barriers between linear and digital TV continue to break down.
The gist of the agreement between Dazn and Warner Bros Discovery? Inside the streaming platform - which in Italy has as its flagship content the exclusivity on all Serie A matches (in co-exclusive three matches a week out of 10 are also broadcast by Sky) - come not only all the Eurosport content - from great cycling to Roland Garros, from UFC to golf, up to Formula E - but also the American group's generalist channels: Nove, Real Time, Dmax, and soon Discovery Channel. This move, seen on the Dazn side, radically broadens the scope of the app, which was born for football and now puts the first foot forward in the possible construction of a 'super-platform', where sport, entertainment and generalist TV coexist.
On the Warner Bros Diuscovery side, apart from the greater visibility given to the free-to-air channels that were victims of the lack of agreement with Sky (and therefore relegated in the numbering beyond channel 5000 of the Comcast platform), this is not just an addition, but also an injection of content. In addition to Eurosport 1 and 2, already available on the app, Dazn will contain the group's entire digital offer: all the matches of the Australian Open and Roland Garros (and not just a few selected live ones, as was the case until now), every stage of the Tour, Giro and Vuelta, all the Classics, and every hour of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics. For those who chew real sports - the ones that don't end up on the big stages but gather loyal audiences - this is a quantum leap.
'We continue to invest in Italy to enrich the experience of sports fans on our platform. The extension of the existing agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery consolidates a partnership that continues from 2020 and leads to an even more integrated and complete app offer. We are proud to strengthen our synergy with a prestigious partner, with whom we share vision and ambition,' commented Stefano Azzi, CEO of Dazn Italia.
For the first time, Dazn also welcomes non-sport channels, which can be viewed free of charge on digital terrestrial TV and are now streamed. A symbolically powerful operation: the boundary between traditional TV and app is becoming increasingly porous. Nove, Real Time, Dmax: they enter a pay platform, but with access included for Dazn subscribers. And soon, also Discovery Channel.
