China and the United States will hold trade talks in Switzerland between 9 and 12 May. This was made clear by Washington and Beijing in several communications.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will travel to Switzerland on 8 May, according to the Treasury Department in a statement.
In addition to meeting with the Swiss leadership, 'during his stay in Switzerland, Secretary Bessent will also meet with the Chief Representative for Economic Affairs of the People's Republic of China (PRC),' the communiqué specified.
"I look forward to productive talks as we work to rebalance the international economic system to better serve US interests," Bessent said.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce, for its part, said that China agreed to trade contacts with the US based on the expectations of the international community, China's interests, and the demands of US companies, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday.
