On the one hand engineering skills, on the other those in the management of water and energy services. At the heart of anagreement to accompany companies towards the energy transition. This is the aim of the cooperation agreement signed by Saipem, a company with expertise in the engineering and construction of major projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors, and the Hera group, one of Italy's leading multi-utility companies with over 10,000 employees. The agreement, which has a duration of three years, aims to support Italian companies in the pathways ofenergy efficiency, decarbonisation and circular economy.
Particular attention is paid to the needs of the most energy-hungry industrial sectors, ranging from ceramics to glass, continuing with paper, chemistry, cement, steel and other sectors 'characterised by processes that are difficult to electrify, engaged in an increasingly complex and challenging path towards Net-Zero'. The objective, the two companies emphasise, 'is to identify, case by case, the most effective energy transition path from a technical, energy and economic point of view'.
Interested companies will be provided with a free preliminary audit, aimed at assessing the best possible decarbonisation path from an energy and economic point of view, and support in evaluating the incentive instruments available at national and European level, to support the feasibility of the projects.
For Saipem, the agreement with the Hera Group 'is part of its strategy to support the energy transition of the most complex industrial sectors'. An agreement that paves the way for "access to solutions for energy efficiency, renewables, hydrogen and CO2 capture". Representatives of the Hera group also viewed the agreement positively, given that "the agreement is fully in line with the path outlined by the group in its Industrial Plan to 2029, which envisages investments totalling 3 billion dedicated to the energy transition and circular economy of territories and businesses".
And it is precisely in this direction that the cutting-edge project to capture CO2 emissions in the Ferrara waste-to-energy plant - proposed by the Hera Group, lead partner, in collaboration with Saipem - selected in October 2024 to receive funding under the EU Innovation Fund's fourth call for mid-scale projects, is heading.
