The bewitching Chengdu between Ming culture and futuristic architecture
Face to face with giant pandas and their funny quirks
In China, they consider them their national living treasure. Subject to an almost mystical veneration, giant pandas also enjoy essential care and attention for their survival, as one realises when visiting the Giant Panda Research and Breeding Base in Chengdu. In what is considered to be the most advanced institute in the world, the pandas live within lush vegetation, in which spaces have been created for their close observation, where one can watch them feed exclusively on leaves, stems and bamboo shoots, and see them climb trees and play. Of course, their involuntary tumbling and dancing arouse collective reactions of irrepressible hilarity among children and adults alike. One can eventually also take part in the so-called Panda Encounter, i.e. spend some time in a special science-didactic area to capture every aspect of their daily life and diet.
