The bewitching Chengdu between Ming culture and futuristic architecture

In Dujiangyan Zhongshuge the library already in the future

Even if you are not an avid reader, you should definitely cross the glass threshold of the Dujiangyan Zhongshuge Bookstore, and be immediately enchanted by the pioneering architecture in which the letter C in its irregular sequence and arch form create a vertiginous backdrop that conveys the impression of walking on the edge of an undulating mountain. Pyramidal columns, inspired by the phantasmagorical Dujiangyan Dam, reach up to the mirrored ceiling expanding the space, especially within the Central Literature District. Instead, the floor is composed of black tiles, while the tables resemble boats moored in the water of a lake. Every floor of this bookshop is to be discovered, accessible by stairs that give access to spaces decorated with book motifs. In practice, architect Li Xiang of Shanghai-based studio X+Living wanted to give life to a bookshop of the future capable of stirring the reader's imagination, re-proposing the woven irrigation system of Dujiangyan, just over fifty kilometres from the city, which was built more than two millennia ago.
