Seventy-five stab wounds to kill Giulia Cecchettin, the 22-year-old student killed by her ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta on 11 November 2023. A cruelty 'clearly exceeding homicidal intent', write the prosecutors of the Venice Public Prosecutor's Office in the indictment notified to the 22-year-old's defenders and the offended parties. According to the prosecutors, on Saturday, 10 November, when Filippo Turetta arrived in front of Giulia's house with his car, he already knew he was going to kill her. He took her out of the house with the excuse of going for a ride to the shopping centre, but he already knew that he would dispose of the young woman's body near the lake of Barcis.
All premeditated according to the pm
.The indictment notified to the 22-year-old's defence lawyers and the offended parties states that Filippo Turetta, according to the Venice prosecutors, had prepared everything 'at least since 7 November'. And underlined that the young man had conducted some searches on the Internat looking for the items 'insulating tape, handcuffs, ropes, shovel, black sacks'. He did not expect that she would have rebelled against his aggression by car, in the time between the first ambush in the Vigonovo car park and the second, in the Fossò industrial area. An intent 'clearly exceeding the homicidal intent', write the magistrates. Turetta, in Fossò, had to chase Giulia, making her fall to the ground and hitting her with other stab wounds because, the prosecutors explain, 'by escaping from the car in which she was forced' the girl was 'actually jeopardising the executive plan of the murder'.
It was not a blackout
.The prosecutors, in support of the thesis of premeditation, write that Filippo Turetta would have 'held firmly the intention to commit a crime, overcoming inhibitions and obstacles to his criminogenic impulse' - given the relationship with the victim - 'for an appreciable lapse of time', waiting for 'a suitable opportunity to implement his intent'. Against the former Torreglia university student, who has been in prison in Verona for five months, the magistrates believe they have an indictment framework, with objective data, such as to make the suspect's attempt - as it was in the November interrogation - to reduce a 'ruthless criminal plan' to a trivial 'blackout', to 'I have to reconstruct what went off in my head....' pale into insignificance.
The attempt to delete navigation tracks from the PC
.Turetta made an attempt to delete the surfing traces from his computer. But computer experts recovered them, discovering that Turetta had written down a file on 'how to tie Giulia, with adhesive tape, hands, ankles, knees' and also 'how to plug her mouth'. In the papers of the notice of conclusion of investigations, which also reached Turetta in prison, the magistrates explain that the student had constructed in detail all the stages of the crime, planning it 'at least from 7 November', four days before the fact. But, according to the prosecutors, he had been thinking about it for much longer, after being left, during the long days at home with nothing else to do but think about Giulia. It was not enough for Filippo to check his interactions on social networks, or torment his sister Elena, about where he went and who he saw the girl. Turetta, the magistrates write, continuously monitored her movements also thanks to 'spy' applications placed on his mobile phone. On 10 November, when he started up his black Punto, Filippo had already loaded everything to carry out the murder, get rid of the body, and flee abroad.
Two knives used
.Turetta, accused of premeditated voluntary manslaughter, allegedly used two knives: the first is the one found broken in the car park near Giulia's house in Vigonovo; the other is the one from the ambush in Fossò, found in his car, after his arrest in Germany. The magistrates do not exclude that he had 'a third one, which then disappeared'. Giulia's mobile phone and handbag were never found.
