From AfD Germans to the ultra-right in the East: Vannacci's web in Europe

Alternative für Deutschland and the galaxy of political parties and movements that, united by pro-Putinism, have increased their reach and consensus. These are the European outlines of Roberto Vannacci and his new political creature, National Future.

The general's relationship with the League's delegation between Brussels and Strasbourg has always been at a low ebb, even before the direction. And it didn't go any better with the Patriots, the European family in which Matteo Salvini's party is militated: when Vannacci was proposed as vice-president of the group, many opposed him. The French led by Jordan Bardella in primis, irritated by the numerous provocations and the general's remigration theory. Vannacci has ruled out resigning as an MEP ("The votes are mine!") and his future could be in the Europe of Sovereign Nations (Esn) group, born after the 2024 European elections as a black family container of extremist right-wingers.

The Esn group is dominated by the Germans of AfD, the rising star of the European ultra-right (accused of neo-Nazism) that has made inroads in the Eastern Länder and among young people. "Roberto Vannacci is a very good politician and we are his fans, let's see what will happen," explained group leader René Aust. That is where, according to Europarliament rumours, Vannacci will end up. In the same group, the party of the anti-Semitic and pro-Russian Polish ultra-right Konfederacja, a movement compared to which the Pis (Law and Justice, in Polish Prawo i Sprawiedliwość) of Mateusz Morawiecki appears almost moderate. The Poles are joined by Lithuanians and Czechs, as well as the Bulgarians of Vazrazhdane (Rebirth), homophobes and Putinites. Not forgetting Reconquête, the French formation of Éric Zemmour, represented in the European Parliament by his main advisor and partner, Sarah Knafo. These are movements that, since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, have never sided with either Kiev or Europe.

They have Steve Bannon and the more extremist Maga wing in the US as their reference point. They make remigration a fundamental pillar. They launch daily screeches against Ursula von der Leyen and the EU leadership. Numerically, Vannacci's eventual move to Esn will be irrelevant. However, some headaches in the Patriots could bring it. In the Oranians of Fidesz, for example, who are preparing for the crucial April election campaign.
